HISTORY

1956.
Carlo Fassi’s perspicacity and technical skills led him to conceive and produce the world’s first elastic fabric. Elastic threads did not yet exist, but the crossing of threads in double and false twist succeeded in giving elasticity to what until then had been rigid.

On the 18th of February, Carlo Fassi and his wife Irma Pogliani founded MECTEX S.a.s. Based in Olate di Lecco, part of the warping and weaving was still done externally.

The company moved to Erba and began an entirely in-house production.

1970.

Created in 1970 from an illustration of Gianni Pareschi, Busnelli’s POLTRONA FIOCCO became part of the permanent collection at MOMA in New York. The weight-bearing structure is made of curved tubular metal fitted with an elastic fabric cloth produced by Mectex that forms the seat.

1972.
The patented Superbiflex CX fabric passes every test and becomes the official fabric of the National Ski Teams of Italy, Austria and Germany.

1985.
The Supermecpor membrane fabric is patented, with revolutionary waterproof and breathable features. Field testing is carried out by an expedition to the Himalayas, with both clothing and wall tents. The mountaineers are enthusiastic about it, and from then a large-scale production will continue throughout the years.

1997.
On September the 1st the looms in the old premises were shut down and production restarted in the new factory in via Trieste, on 14,000 square metres of buildings equipped with the most innovative technical and technological solutions.

The new Speedo swim suit, made entirely of Mectex fabric, broke 92% of world records, and won 94% of the gold medals and 89% of all medals awarded in swimming at the Beijing Olympics.

2012.
On the 15th of September, Paolo Scudieri’s Adler Group signed the lease of Mectex through its subsidiary Ora. The productive activity is maintained in the historical headquarter in Erba, and staff, know-how and spirit of innovation present in Mectex’s DNA are safeguarded.
